Living by Faith Under Pressure
Acts 16:31 “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.”
These words were spoken by Paul and his missionary partner Silas to the Philippian jailor. They had been jailed for spreading the gospel, with phony charges against them.
It was midnight in the jail, and Paul and Silas had already been beaten. However, they didn’t complain. Instead, they prayed and sang praises to God. All of the prisoners heard them. As they were praying, the earth shook, and every one’s bands were loosed.
The guard feared thinking that he lost his prisoners and was ready to draw his sword upon himself. Paul stopped him with a shout! When the jailor brought them out, he asked, “What must I do to be saved?” Paul and Silas responded,
“Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.”
First, notice how simple it is to have peace with God; it is by faith through the person and work of Jesus Christ.
Second, see how Paul and Silas faithfully shared the gospel when the opportunity was available to them. As Christians, we need to do the same thing.
Lastly, notice how Paul and Silas handled their unfair treatment with faith, praise, and prayer.
We have the same Spirit of God in us that gives us the will to do the same!
